Message From The President
June 2010 June already! Our littlest Two Year Olds have become seasoned
school-goers. Our Three Year Olds are looking forward to movin' on up to become one of "The Big Kids" and
the Pre-K's are gearing up for Kindergarten! Where has the school year gone? It was a wonderful year and
our teachers have all done a great job enriching the social and academic lives of our children. For this hard work and dedication,
I am grateful to them all. I also thank the families for all of the help and support they have provided throughout the
year. RCNS is certainly a "Cooperative" school community! She has been
a pirate and a pilgrim; a queen and a witch; a butterfly and a baseball player. But despite her many "disguises"
she is - and has been - our beloved teacher at Ringwood Cooperative Nursery School for over twenty years. It is with
mixed emotions, that I wish Arlene MacAllen a Happy Retirement. I say "mixed emotions" because I am so excited
for her as she starts this new phase of her life. She has so many wonderful things to look forward to and do during
her well deserved retirement. For that reason I am thrilled for her. However, in the years that she taught my son and
that I have worked with her, I have grown to respect and admire her as a teacher and, most importantly, as a person.
This is where the bittersweet emotion comes in for me. I will miss my friend, Arlene. The Ringwood Cooperative
Nursery School community will miss her also. But we all wish her the best of luck, health and happiness.
I am happy to announce that Andrea Benzinger will be teaching the Pre-K class beginning in September. Mrs. Benzinger
has been the aide in the Pre-K class for the past five years. She recently completed all requirements for her New Jersey
Teaching Certification (PreSchool-3rd Grade). With her experience and proven capabilities, I am looking forward to watching
Mrs. Benzinger teach our children and help them grow. I am confident that she will continue to be superb.
So best wishes to all of our wonderful kids venturing out to Kindergarten. Congratulations, guys! You have done
a great job! A huge Thank You to Lisa Witham and Erin Biegel for serving as Vice President and Housing Liaison.
With their children graduating, this marks the end of their time (7 years each!) at RCNS. We will miss you both! Make sure you take a look at the "Cooperative Garden" that our little Green
Thumbs recently planted (in a plot in the garden that was generously donated by the Midvale United Methodist Church).
It's a great spot for end of the year and Graduation photos! I hope you and your families
have a fun summer. ENJOY and I'll see you in September! -Kim Lorah-LiDestri

January 2010 Happy New Year! Well, the Christmas trees
have been taken down, the menorahs have been put away and the horns and party hats have been used to welcome in the New Year.
The holidays are over but there are still tons of exciting things to look forward to at RCNS! Pretty soon, you may hear our Pre-K class greeting each other with "Gung hay fat choy!"
as they learn about Chinese New Year. They will become miniature "mushers" as they learn about the Iditarod
and follow the "Last Great Race on Earth". Our Three year old class will be studying and experimenting with
their five senses and visiting a dentist's office to learn about healthy eating snd sparkling smiles. Our Enrichement
students are exploring our solar system and are even making their own planets! The Terrific Twos are seeing stars as
they learn about the midnight skies. Of course, in February, Valentines will be shared among friends and all will eagerly
await the groundhog's prediction for Spring! Speaking of SPRING, RCNS will be starting a Garden Program. Our kids
will have the opportunity to get their hands dirty, turn their thumbs green, and learn about plants and flowers. The
children will be raising butterflies so make sure to look for these beautiful creatures fluttering around our gardens! For families and friends- we are in the process of planning a Swap Meet in March.
For those of you who are not familiar with swap meets - they are a fun and fantastic way of trading items you don't use anymore
or have outgrown for something "new to you". More details to follow but we are looking for volunteers to help
organize this great event. Please contact Erin Biegel if you are interested in assisting. On the evening of February 15th, RCNS is hosting a Women's Health Outreach program. This program
will be presented by Dr. Nancy Elliott from The Montclair Breast Center. Dr. Elliott will be discussing women's
heath issues. This informative and very important seminar is open to the public and more details will follow. Please
spread the word. Finally, we hope to see you all return to RCNS
next year (unless it's off to Kindergarten you go!) and registration for the 2010-2011 school year is underway. Our
Open House for new families is Saturday, January 30th from 10:00-12:00 (snow date February 6th). Please mention this
event to anyone you know who might be looking to explore Pre-School options. Congratulations to the Bland Family on the birth of Baby Ryan! Have a Great 2010 and Stay Warm! Kim Lorah-LiDestri

November
2009 November is upon us and I am not sure how time is passing so quickly!
It seems like yesterday our children were anxiously and excitedly beginning the new school year. Suddenly,
last week saw our classrooms filled with princesses and skeletons, super heroes and trains, animals and race car drivers.
And all the little ghosts and goblins were happily munching on cupcakes and treats! Thanks to all
the parents and teachers for making Halloween so much fun for our kids! Thanks also to everyone who made our recent fundraisers huge successes! Pam Kaplan and Tara Baeli
both have worked so hard and the support of RCNS families and friends has really paid off. Nicole Langenmayr
has made a fantastic fundraising arrangement with Ultimate Expressions Photography for RCNS Family Holiday Portraits.
Make sure you reserve a time slot for the November 14th event! Think Holiday Cards!
Finally, don’t forget that holiday shopping has been made a little easier with ArtWare By You.
This year, as in years past, each class will be collecting donations
for Thanksgiving Baskets – filled with everything to give local, less fortunate families a holiday meal. With the holidays
rapidly approaching, let’s take time to remember all we have to be thankful for and to share goodwill with others in
our community. It’s a great lesson in giving and sharing for our children. Look for sign-up sheets
on class bulletin boards soon! While you are doing
your own shopping for your holiday meals, please take a moment to register your Stop and Shop card at www.stopandshop.com/aplus.
Stop and Shop is donating FREE money to local schools through its A+ Bonus Bucks Program. Private
Nursery Schools like RCNS are not eligible to participate but many local elementary schools are. After
you register your card and designate a school(s), every shopping trip you make earns money to support the school(s) of your
choice. The following local schools are participating (as well as other
schools listed on the Stop and Shop website): Peter Cooper Elementary School in Ringwood (ID# 07649), Wanaque
Elementary School (ID# 07210) and Haskell Elementary School (ID# 07620).
Finally, this year, we will again
be collecting for a school-wide "Sunshine Fund". Families wishing to make a contribution to this fund can give their
voluntary donation to our Treasurer,
Nicole Langenmayr with their tuition check. Please make sure to note that the additional money is to be added
to the Sunshine Fund. This fund will be used to congratulate Ringwood Cooperative Nursery School families on new
babies, provide condolences for a loss, or for any other major, significant event that may require some *Sunshine". If you have any questions or concerns about any of the above events
or programs, please feel free to contact me at 973-962-4594 or klorah@optonline.net.
Have a Wonderful Thanksgiving! – Kim Lorah-LiDestri

Welcome Back To School! September 2009 I hope you all had a fun and enjoyable summer! Our family had a terrific summer
but both of my children are so excited to be starting school. Their excitement and enthusiasm for school thrills me. It means
that they love school and are excited about learning. The love of learning, I feel, is one of the greatest gifts a child can
receive. For this gift, the teachers and families are to thank for instilling this wonderful value - the value of education.
I personally want to thank the teachers and families of Ringwood Cooperative Nursery School for all of their hard work and
effort to make our school a safe and fun place for our children to start their educational journey. So welcome to all of our
new families! Welcome back to our returning families! I am excited about the upcoming school year as well. - Kim Lorah-LiDestri
